The ITCZ (INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE) is at this time in a normal position inside the continent of Africa(Around 11n-12n).That position that the convergence is now will allow later on in the summer for the parade of tropical waves to emerge Africa more north in latitud.BUT the ITCZ in the atlantic ocean is still well south of it's normal position at this time of the year (Around 5n in average from the west coast of Africa to 60w and in some spots the axis is around 3n and jumps to 8n) so the zone of convergence in the atlantic is much more south than inside the african continent however it is normal to have the ITCZ inside africa more north than in the ocean.Expect the ITCZ in the atlantic ocean to begin to lift northward as the weeks progress and when it gets to around 9-10n the axis is when things will become interesting normally by early august in the eastern atlantic as the cape verde season kicks off.

I forgot to mention that in some days you will find the ITCZ boiling with deep convection but on the other hand you will find days of inactive ITCZ as it is these days as almost no clouds are found along the axis east of 35w.
