I'd love to have recon near Africa this time of year

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

I'd love to have recon near Africa this time of year

As I am convinced that many of these disturbances, like the one currently off of Africa, do briefly reach TD or weak TS intensity, before rapidly falling apart once they leave the monsoon trough. I'd be interested in finding out what the results yielded

You're(through your job) close to those who could do something about that. Why not make a suggestion that they place a plane in one of the the African Coastal nations. I WISH(like you) that this was even a practical suggestion!!! I do agree with your assessment too.

Problem is operationally, no recon east of 50W (for NOAA P-3 and G-IV) and 55W for the Air Force. We USED to have complete recon, but the Navy terminated recon flights back when sats came into existence

If only there was a base for recon in a West Africa nation or the Cape Verde Islands. 8-)

That is a very good idea (in theory)... I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment.

This is one thing I would like to do in the future as a research project. However, I have WAY too much to do right now, so we're talking at least 10 years before that will happen. More important fish to fry these days

It sure would be nice to have something other than Sattelite data for the many possibilities.. You would think they could get some great data on the genesis of these systems..versus going out only when something had developed or threatens. Cashola has got to be the problem..

I would volunteer a week or 2 every season to get in that plane..unfortunately I would also have to buy the dropsondes and fill the tank at this point.

Well if we could just get to this world peace thing..then we could have a few carriers positioned throughout the Hurricane zone and fly recons daily..

Thank goodness we have computers to crunch the data..lol
