big blobs over Africa

Wow -- check out the latest colorized Meteosat imagery. Some major blow ups over Africa right now. No way to know if they'll hold together as they trek on towards the coast or not, but they're impressive to look at anyway. Enjoy!

Agree Impressive areas of convection but the question is when they come out what kind of enviroment will they find or more dry air and shear or less dry air and almost no shear.

Wasn't it just last week we saw 5 of those huge blobs trekking accross Africa only to peter out into nothing as soon as they hit the Atlantic?

Agree Cycloneye..... The SAL has been very persistant along with UL winds over the east Atlantic. We've already seen several impressive waves exit the coast of Africa to only be sheared and moisture starved. Throw in the marginal SST's and we have a typical early-mid July situation for which we see very few TW's develop out there this time of year. Nonetheless, If this was Aug/Sept. we would be tracking TC's like crazy and you guys down there would eventually be threatened by now. Let's hope this pattern of continual strong TW's doesn't continue come Aug./Sept. or you'll be very anxious to say the least! :cry:
