Alicia 1983, & the Gulf now...

If I remember right Alicia formed quickly on the tail end of a old cold front that made it into the Gulf. I was just looking at the Sat. pic's and the Gulf looks much like it did in 1983. Alicia went from nothing to a hurrican in what seemd like a few hours....

I wouldn't say that Alicia had an explosive intensification phase, I would say that Alicia was able to use its slow movement over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico to its favor.
