Convection is all displaced to the east. Looks like it will merge with the system coming off the US coast and go NE

So many times this has been the case, and it looks like it will be once again. If 98L forms, it doesn't look like it will reach NC (or any of the east coast for that matter), because of that cold front approaching the coast. I can't count the number of times we've had a shot at getting a storm over here, only to be cut short by a cold front pushing it back out to sea. But you never know what could happen. We'll see how it turns out.

The cold front has been weakening, that could, as it has in the past caused the developing tropical system to move "the other way," opposed to along, ahead and out to sea to the north, north-northeast and northeast.

So if the cold front is weakening, Then Nc could be wide open as with any of the east coast states is this what you meant coldfront77

That is a possibility, but not a real strong one. Mostly that threat will depend on how quickly the high(ridge) builds in behind the front and for lack of better words what its' alignment is. 98L is pretty high in latitude for it to happen, but it doesn't mean it can't. Current progs bring the front far enough south that I don't think 98L will reach the East coast. I have been wrong in the past so as with all the tropics we wait and see.
