I think...think...that NC will be OK. Looking at the latest satellite loops...it appears that the system will stay off the coast and not come inland.
Of course...folks there should closely monitor the progress of the system as a wobble either way could result in a landfall.
There is little doubt that Alex will become the first hurricane of the season. This morning I was concerned that the system could become a hurricane and clip the coast...but with sw winds setting in...there is little to push the system back.
Again...this is just my opinion...please refer to official information and pay attention if you are in a warning area.

I agree with you assessment. From the latest loops, it does look like it will come close but avoid landfall. Certainly, the worst of its winds should avoid the Outerbanks but there will likely be some strong gusts perhaps near or at hurricane strength.
