Also look at the Atlantic. It's running 3-4 degrees above normal also. This explains why Alex was a cat 3 well north.
Problem is, if anything moves towards the Eastern Seaboard, chances are any weakening will be minimal if based only on SST's.
Of course other factors would have to be measured in.

Shew, that is pretty high numbers out of the Gulf, hopefully TD 2 can feed off these high SST's.

Also note the really warm water is spreading east closer to the African coast. I've got a feeling in 10 days or so, the tropics will really be heating up, possibly with storm after storm out there. 8-)
