SOUTH FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION...RETRANSMIT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
255 AM EDT SUN AUG 15 2004

.DISCUSSION...A WEAK TROPICAL WAVE WAS LOCATED OVER THE FLORIDA
STRAITS AND EXTENDED NORTH INT0 SOUTH FLORIDA EARLY THIS MORNING.
THIS WEAK WAVE GENERATED ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE
ATLANTIC WATERS OF SOUTH FLORIDA EARLY THIS MORNING WHICH PUSHED
INTO THE EAST COAST METRO REGIONS OF THE CWA BEFORE DISSIPATING.

THE ISOLATED ACTIVITY SHOULD CONTINUE OVER THE ATLANTIC WATERS OF
SOUTH FLORIDA WHILE GETTING PUSH WEST NORTHWEST INTO THE EAST COAST
METRO REGIONS OF THE CWA...AS THE WEAK TROPICAL WAVE MOVES WEST INTO
THE GULF OF MEXICO.

THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ACTIVITY SHOULD THEN INCREASE ACROSS
THE CWA TO SCATTERED CONDITIONS BY AFTERNOON...AS THE PWAT SHOULD
INCREASE OVER SOUTH FLORIDA WITH THE WEAK TROPICAL WAVE TO THE WEST
OF SOUTH FLORIDA. THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SLOW MOVERS
TOO...AS THE MID TO UPPER LEVEL HIGH OVER THE ATLANTIC WATERS BUILDS
INTO SOUTH FLORIDA TODAY. SO THERE COULD BE SOME LOCALLY HEAVY
RAINFALL ACROSS THE CWA...AND PLAN ON MENTION THIS IN THE HWO.

THE MID TO UPPER LEVEL HIGH WILL REMAIN OVER SOUTH FLORIDA THROUGH
WEDNESDAY WITH THE SURFACE HIGH OVER CENTRAL FLORIDA. THE WEAK
TROPICAL WAVE THAT WAS FORECAST TO MOVE THROUGH TUESDAY SHOULD NOW
STAY TO OUR SOUTH.

.EXTENDED FORECAST...TROPICAL STORM EARL IS STILL FORECAST BY NHC TO
MOVE INTO THE WESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA LATE THIS WEEK. AS EARL MOVES
TOWARDS THE WESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA...SOUTH FLORIDA COULD SEE AN
INCREASE IN MOISTURE LATE THIS WEEK. SO PLAN ON KEEPING STATUS QUO
FOR THE EXTENDED PACKAGE UNTIL EARL MAKES HIS MIND UP WHERE HE WANTS
TO GO AND DO.

.MARINE...THE WINDS TODAY WILL BE AROUND THE SOUTHEAST 10 TO 15
KNOTS OVER THE ATLANTIC WATERS BEHIND THE WEAK TROPICAL WAVE AND
AROUND 10 KNOTS OVER THE GULF AND LAKE WATERS. THE WINDS WILL GO
EAST TONIGHT AND REMAIN EAST THROUGH WEDNESDAY AROUND 10 KNOTS.

SEAS WILL BE 2 TO 3 FEET TODAY OVER THE ATLANTIC WATERS BEFORE GOING
TO 2 FEET OR LESS THROUGH WEDNESDAY. OVER THE GULF WATERS...SEAS
WILL BE 2 FEET OR LESS THROUGH THE FORECAST PACKAGE.
&&

.FIRE WEATHER...NO CONCERNS WITH SUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF MOISTURE.

That wording is kind of funny... ...but it illustrates the heightened alert state we're now in because of Charley.

Charley was a lesson to us all, that these storms can and do whatever they want to whomever they want.

I think with Earl everyone from Texas to Florida needs to keep a very close watch. These storms have a mind of their own. Not to repeat but i remember Opal and the quick turn she took.
