Infamous Tongue of High Pressure satellite view

#1 Postby Ziplock48 » Thu Sep 02, 2004 6:15 am

Please look at this Water-Vapor loop from Gulf of Mexico, clearly depicting a sharply delineated tongue of very dry air moving to the WSW from NcentralFla to SW FLA.

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT ... -loop.html

Could this idicate the upper level visualization of an extension of the High that will, and seems to be, causing Frances to to retain her WNW heading?

Very bad news, I think for South Florida.

I've been lurking on the board, but here's my situation.
My home is in South Dade County, but I am living now with family in Jacksonville (right on the St JOhns River 14 stories up, while I rehab from a severe back injury). The only solution(s) that don't wreak immediate havoc on my life are Fish and threading the needle through Palm Beach County.

I have been sweating bulletts...chewing nails, like many here and across the state. I am still praying for a fish, but I have felt that West Palm beach landfall (I know, I know, what an easy "forcast to say....now) was most likely. And I feel sick to my stomach for praying for that solution.

I apologize to all in West Palm! I am selfish and ashamed.
Terror brings out the worst in me. :grr: Can't sleep, can't eat.

Good luck to all in harm's way. Please comment on the dry air...Is it part of the High that is guiding Frances?

BTW, I lost nearly everything I owned, including my way of life, in Andrew in '92. I don't want to start over again.

I'm not very experienced but I would think that would force it toward the Keys and into the Gulf. Any experienced Mets please comment.

Just remember all the good people in Palm Beach (myself included) who worked the distribution center at the South Florida Fairgrounds, making sure donations from around the country made it to you. Don't know if you benefitted directly, but we tried. You'll have your chance to return the favor.

HOw is that a high presssure? That's simple less moisture in the atmostphere. I believe the Ridge is actually a little bit north.

Thank you for your aid. The one good thing I could name that came out of such a terrible storm as Andrew was the way that many people did pull together in a spirit of generosity. Of couse, there were many, many foul souls who preyed upon the weary and desperate residents...especially "contractors" who demanded large cash deposits on repairs, only to abscond with the money.

Let this be a sad warning to those in the way of Frances...be very careful whom you trust in cleanup operations. Find out who you are dealing with.

I wish I could help, but I am unable to do so at this time, since I am totally disabled. Like many residents, I am dependent upon the charity of others, including asking friends to put up the rest of my shutters, since I cannot do it myself. :(

Big Dog, I, and thousands others like myself owe you a debt of gratitude.
and I apologize for "wishing" the storm your way. I am powerless to effect the track, as we all are, in the face of this storm.

That's how ridges show up in the water vapor loop. Matter of fact...the seperation b/w the moist air over north FL and the dry air over S fl is the ridge axis...the line over florida b/w the moist and dry.

I know, Zip... I'm just testy and very upset right now. My parents will probably lose their house if this track holds up. Not something they can easily face at the age of 67. I'm their only child, so we don't really have a huge support system. And I don't know what to tell them other than I'll be there always. :(

I know you can't help but start thinking "better them than us." I do it. We all do it. It's gotta go somewhere. I guess "fish" is too much to hope for now.

Is it THIS ridge that will keep it more west/south and then into GOMEX?
