Have counted about 7 tornados in the eye, in past 3 hours..
Radar has shown about 7 tornados, 5 of them being in the southern eye-wall...
This will be the worst part of this storm!!!

How do you count tornados?

You have to use a program that calculates it...
Here is the link:
http://www.grlevelx.com/grlevel3/grw88level3_setup.exe
Here is a updated exe...
Copy this into the installation folder...
http://www.grlevelx.com/grlevel3/grw88level3.exe
This also allows you to smooth the radar image, and track storm cells, and predict their paths... among many things.
Once you download it, goto site, then set it to melbourne, or miami...
under products select
"Base Reflectivity" and "Composite Reflectivity" then click play... it will take a couple minutes to load, and digest the radar image... then click on the right panel... "Smoothing" , "Range Rings", "Storm Tracks", and "Mesos.." (that is the Tornado detection)
That should be it... there are a few options to play with but that should get you going pretty well.

Wow! Great program! Certainly through no burst of intelligence, I found that if you click the "Start Archiver" button (looks like a stack of papers) the program will grab the last few hours of data and expand your loop to cover a larger amount of time. You can really see the eyewall wrapping over the last couple of hours. I don't know the actual function of that button, but it worked for me.
This site has some good content:

Someone posted earlier that they had a program to interpret the Vortex data. Could someone link to it or send it to me?
Thanks and good luck to everyone in the path of this storm.

That's the link I posted last night. I've been using it now for about 2 months. I have to say it is the best radar suite I have ever used. Keep the link and check back every once and a while because the author usually adds a new feature or two now and then. It's free right now, but I'm sure he's about to start selling it. If so, I'm definately a customer.
You can also use the Velocity tools to get an estimate of the winds. It's great monitoring Mesos b/c you can easily zoom in on the hook echos.
On the webpage, there is a link to the forums. In the forums, you can find out how to download shape and style files. This will let you be able to see every single street or body of water for which ever location you download.

yea...it does loops. If you're just starting the software at a particular radar site, you'll need to click the "Start Archive" button at the top (second from the left). That gathers the last 15 - 20 images. Use the "VCR" buttons acordingly. When it downloads a new image, its adds it to the end of the 15 - 20 image list automatically.
Mesos are basically supercell T-storms. Their mostly in and around tornado alley, but do form in many other areas.
