The first band came through while my mother was working in her garden. Very little rain, but the wind was fierce. You could hear it coming from a long way away. Eerie noise. Leaves and tree limbs coming down. Lasted about five minutes. The sun came out but its getting overcast again.

Here in South St Petersburg we just lost power for the first time. Winds coming up in that line of showers. Not much rain yet though.

My family is down in WPB so we are going to experience both the front end and the tail end of this storm.

Lousy luck, but it could have been worse.

Here in New Tampa, the winds were sustained around 30 with gusts to 40+ with that last squall. I see another one coming here that just passed daytona beach.

I read that the squall heading this way has an embedded radar indicated tornado. The squall should be here in an hour, moving 60mph

I'm in N.E. St Pete, wind snuck up on me and freaked me out! I have a 15 ft plumeria tree thats branches were blowing clear down to the ground. I've got 25 plus banana trees on my lot and I'm pleasantly surprised that they lasted thoses gusts...only a matter of time though! No power outage here

Ormond Beach Reporting In

#13 Postby MysticOne » Sat Sep 04, 2004 5:33 pm

I am in Ormond Beach, FL, just north of Daytona Beach. Strangely enough, we have had nothing more than a slight rain shower that lasted no more than 5 minutes. No big winds, few very mild gusts (no more than 7 to 10 mph). Wouldn't it be lovely if it stayed that way!

Good luck all... hunker down cause its going to be a LONG NIGHT!!!

PS - I love this board... you all have been a life saver for me over the last few days. So glad to see so many knowledgeable souls love to study the weather!!

Hi all, I'm in unincorporated Largo just south of Largo Mall...we had some fairly strong gusts with light rain about a half hour ago - sun was trying to come out for a bit but it looks like things are getting ready to pop again...

I'm curious, is anyone here planning on boarding up their windows? We boarded up for Charley (we were actually one of only a few who did on my street), but my husband thinks that because Frances is coming from across the state we don't have to worry as much...I'm not so sure!

Everyone please stay safe!

Once all these hurricanes are gone, I'm going to buy some sand bags and keep them in the utility room forever.

Every time this happens I end up thinking "Gee I wish I had some sand bags," but by then it is too late.

Hope you've got a UPS backup for your electronics. Lost a computer that way last year due to multiple brownouts. Fried the harddrive - major bummer!

Good luck and God Bless to all of you down there.

I also live in Largo and had a 37 mph wind gust at 5:39PM. Let's see what happens tomorrow. Apparently I am the only one in my neighborhood with shutters up. I got my computer on an UPS and the cable modem/router on a separate UPS. Wonder if RR will stay up if I loose power.
