AP Article: 115 MPH winds??

#1 Postby LAwxrgal » Sat Sep 04, 2004 11:30 pm

Massive Hurricane Frances trudged ashore with 115 mph wind and pelting rain late Saturday, knocking out power to 2 million people and forcing Floridians to endure a frightening night amid roaring gales that shredded roofs and uprooted trees.

When were the winds upgraded to 115? :)

Maybe NHC just bumped up the winds and told AP outlets first before public got knowledge of it. Looking at the radar and the fact that Melbourne 40 miles away from the eyewall is getting 85-90mph sustained makes me think this thing is a tad stronger than just 105mph.

I agree Wrf that this is stronger.

They might have reported the wind gusts as sustained winds.
