should i leave my shutters up

#1 Postby wzrgirl1 » Mon Sep 06, 2004 1:18 am

Do you all think I should leave my shutters up another couple of days to see the eventual track of Ivan? I hate to take them down and have to put them up again......then again I am sick of living in the dark. Ughh!! :grr:

Take a few panels off in necissary places... let a little light in! :)
Emergeny management has recomended to leave them on for the most part until at least after this weekend!

Leave at least two escape routes per room...one window and one door open...just in case of a fire...so take the majority of the pannels off of one window...I say leave the rest of the pannels up since you have already done the work.

Otherwise...leave the rest of the pannels...no reason to bother with 30 to 40 pannels when you can deal with 8 or 10 in my opinion.

Putting shutters up and taking them down is a lot of work. I took a couple down just to let some light in. Hopefully Ivan will not affect us. It's been a hell of a season for Florida and we are just entering the peak.

We live in a two-story house so it will definitely be a lot of work. Thanks for the advice. Let's hope we can all rest easy in a week.

We're leaving them all up except for a couple.

Mine are staying up. Just remove some panels for sunlight and 911 escape. The top floor windows will stay shuttered until 11-30. Any year we have to put them up, I always leave on the top floor until the end of the season. Just too much work!

The way it's going, I think you should leave them up until November 30.

I hear ya. We took them off the front door...the garage door and a few windows downstairs. We left all of them up upstairs. We all slept late this morning. Thought it was 6 a.m. but was actually 9 a.m. Boy is it dark in here!! This is starting to get depressing. Don't think our psychees can go through Ivan. Please pray he is a fish! Not looking good is it????

I don't have storm shutters or plywood covers since at 64 with no man in the house and no money, it is pretty difficult. However, all my other hurricane preps are staying in place until 11/30. We are not eating the food, will replace gas and batteries in the morning and leaving the makeshift window covers up until then. I don't have the strength or energy to deal with this again.

May just tell my ex-husband Ivan to get himself down here and fix shutters or send his storm elsewhere.

Who knows? Could be a chance to reconcile.

Yeah, we're going to try to leave most of ours up. We live in a condo and the association gets a bit picky about having plywood up, but I think since we're currently in the cone they can deal with it. We'll take 'em all down after Ivan passes.
