#1 Postby canegrl04 » Mon Sep 06, 2004 9:46 am

The month of August saw 8 tropical cyclones turn into named storms, which surpasses the previous record set in 1933,and 1995(counting Alex, which became a TS on August 1) This is double the normal number of 4. -NHC

No I dont think so. In 1995 we had 8 named storms as well and even 1 TD form. So I guess we are tied with 95'

August 1995 only had 7 form in the month. Erin formed on July 31st and Marilyn was named in September.

August 2004 had seven tropical cyclones form in the month, although 8 tropical cyclones reaching storm strength is a new record ...

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2004/tw ... _aug.shtml?

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

SEVEN TROPICAL CYCLONES FORMED DURING AUGUST. IN ADDITION...
ALEX...WHICH FORMED AT THE END OF JULY...REACHED TROPICAL STORM AND
HURRICANE STRENGTH IN AUGUST. THE TOTAL OF EIGHT TROPICAL CYCLONES
REACHING STORM STRENGTH IS A NEW AUGUST RECORD...BREAKING THE
PREVIOUS RECORD OF SEVEN SET IN 1933 AND 1995. THE EIGHT NAMED
STORMS THAT HAVE FORMED SO FAR IN 2004 IS TWICE THE NORMAL NUMBER
OF 4.
