Powerless in St Augustine

After being with out power for 6 days, we are beginning to wonder if we can get it restored before Ivan knocks it out. We finally found a generator yesterday but will be lucky to find fuel for it if this comes in next week. Hope all you other powerless folks are holding up okay. FPL Sucks!!!

I work in St. Augustine and I know exactly what you mean. Many of the people who have come in my work are saying that FPL told them it would be at least 2 weeks. I also live in Palatka and like 65% of the residents of Putnam County are without power...most of these being FPL customers. Thank goodness we have Clay Electric...you see those trucks all around town but hardly any FPL trucks. I don't know if you're in the Vilano/A1A area, but I've heard around town that they'll be getting it back soon.

Unfortunately I am in Western St Johns County. It appears to be one power pole between me and Nirvana! The only thing we hear from FPL is we will tell you Thursday Evening of when you will be restored. 6 days with out any idea of when or where or what the situation is. It is the worst job of communication I have ever witnessed. I have yet to see a FPL truck yet!

My brother in law is a driver for UPS and he was saying that on 210, there was power on one side of the street and none on the other! He said it was the weirdest thing and that people were buying way long extension cords to run from one side of the street to the other. Crazy!

Thanks Rockyou. North side of 210 is powered by Jacksonville Electric Authority which has been out with an army of Electrical Workers since just after the storm. I am eagarly awaiting my first hot shower! Bellsouth has said phone service will be restored in OCTOBER! Good luck with the next round

I hope that you folks do better than I did
in 1992 after Hurrican Andrew. I was without
power for 6 weeks!

I am in NW St Johns county near Switzerland. There is no power here. Although the shopping center near Julington Creek has power.

We have a well but no elect so only sponge baths with a bucket of cold water on the shoulders at the finish.

You gotta do this or the heat will drive you nuts. The last two nites have been hot and humid with no breeze, with the temp inside the house peaking at 88 degrees around 8 at night. The house cools to about 82 in the morning and we have big shade trees! I really pity those in metal mobile homes in the sun!


I have seen FPL in action before. It allways takes longer for them to restore service

I am writing this from the Julington Creek library in the cool, cool, air conditioning.

I wont retun to the hot house until 11 when I can sleep.

I wish I had a generator. A fan would make things much more barable.
