New Orleans 39 years since hit by cane, and our luck goes on

#1 Postby cajungal » Fri Sep 10, 2004 12:09 pm

Yesterday, marked the 39th year that the New Orleans area got hit by Betsy. They got a few close calls over the years, but that is it. It seems like Louisiana always has something protecting it from the storms. Blocking High, trough, or cold front. And that is good thing for us. But, bad for others. I pray for all you floridians that have to ride out yet another cane. I was hoping and hoping with all my might that it would not come your way. I don't want it here either. Just wish I had the magical power to send Ivan out to sea. Today is also the peak of hurricane season. Is there anything else interesting coming off Africa?

I worrry about N. Orleans. Sooner or later another storm will hit and with so much building since the last Cane there and the sea level issue we could be looking at a terrible disaster waiting to happen.

I hope your luck holds. My parents evacuated from their Venice Beach home to New Orleans prior to Frances and have stayed up there having fun in their motor home and eating lots of good food this week. We told them to stay there till the end of next week.

It's the least that Louisiana can do for our Florida friends - come on over and at least enjoy your stay here with some great food.

LA as a whole state hasn't been that lucky (however N.O. has dodged bullets). We've had Andrew, Isadore (or Isabelle?), Lili (one week after issy) and TS Bill last year that caused major flooding in Terrebone parish. I'm sure there were others, but those all popped in my head.
