Isabel when it was hitting North Carolina as a Cat 2 last year was about the size of Ivan. Of course, dry air has been entrained into it's inner core so right by the eye wasn't as bad as farther away...
I remember Opal in 1995 being huge. I can remember it being cloudy about 36 hours before it hit us.
Also... after Isidore in 2002's inner core collapsed due to hitting the Yucatan it was HUGE with TS force winds extending out 345 miles at one point. I remember it being 18 hours from hitting Louisiana and we were getting heavy rain and gusty wind from it IN EAST ALABAMA.
