1997 -- Midnight, Friday, July 18, to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19 - Danny stalls for 15 hours over or nearly over Alabama's Fort Morgan State Park in Mobile Bay, about 30 miles south-southeast of Mobile, Ala. Winds increase to 80 mph as the storm spins over the warm Gulf waters.

peach compared to what Ivan's bringing. I'd take Danny all over again if I could choose between he and Ivan. We owned a home on Mobile Bay's north side, just the bay between us and Fort Morgan. Close enough to see the condos during the day and lights during the night. We didn't even lose a shingle during Danny.

40 inches of rain....but I'll take the rain any day. I remember in Danny, there were gawkers on the causeway that runs across the bay when the eye was over the bay. Not a lot of wind....but a ton of rain.

I heard with mobile bay being on the west side of the eye, that the north winds drained the bay.

That was a strange sight. Danny sat over the mouth of the bay and just pumped it dry.

On the other side, the highest I ever saw the water rise was during Georges. He flooded Water St (no pun intended) with 4 or 5 feet of water.
