Hurricane force winds will be felt far from the center as a repeated word of precaution. As a large storm not moving quickly, very heavy rainfall will likely be dumped on many areas. All this stuff about New Orleans--although hurricane force winds may be experienced, there will almost definitely not be a direct hit, and certainly nothing crossing on the west side of the city--but it will probably still be a rough day in N.O. Mobile, you're taking the shot here, Pensacola, you're on the east side of the storm--don't forget the eye is big, so substantial winds will probably be felt in Florida as well.

No offense to Mobile or friends to the East, but, I hope you're right. For Mobile, the system will need to move due North right now. No one is now expecting "the turn," until Ivan is already over land, unless you are a renegade.
