I'm home in Uptown in New Orleans and I'm riding it out... Here's a little more about my plans and why I'm staying--for one thing...I'm certainly safe... http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=45039 BTW, quite a few came back to the City as traffic was just too much...4 hours to get from Downtown to Metairie!! (which is only 7 miles)...a friend of mine left Mid-City and was heading east and it took 8 hours to get to Slidell!!!! (a total distance of 25 miles)....ridiculous.

Sure does seem to be moving just west of NNW. This thing's gonna be right on top of us before we know it at this rate. I'm in N.O. sitting at my computer with plans to evacuate to a downtown hotel in the morning and now I'm wondering if I'll be able to get over there since I'm on the other side of the river. I wonder if they'd close the bridge if winds are high enough. Sean, do you know of any plans for the bridge. I heard at 40-50mph winds, it'll close. Have you heard this?

I have a hotel room in New Orleans at my leisure in the quarter that I could go to tomorrow with my dog--friends are there and I have a room. I think I'd prefer to stay at home. I'm just more comfortable here, if you know what I mean...

check out the buoy reports off the Louisiana coast...the winds are starting to pick up. I was outside a bit ago and it was quite breezy...

I will remain patient for now, I believe it will turn away to more north and then east and spare us the worst of it, still dangerous and not to be taken lightly

sean I know how you feel ALOT (20-40) people in my neighborhood are leaving in the Morning @ 6 am Roads are still quite busy and Home Depot is still open so Life is in a rush But I really think you should get out of the FRENCH quarter Even if its in AM you shold be able to get far enough away...as for me...I'm heading SOUTH TO KAFB take care I will see you over on wwl forum

I have a gut feeling the storm will come in right over N.O. and devistate the city with water.

After it starts and the winds pick up, it will be too late.
Stay safe and don't be a statistic.

Use common sense.
Even many old time new orleans residents have evacuated.

Excellent. Speed data! I'll take the best path which is 3.125 MPH. Considering a scenario where the front edge of the storm won't hit land for 12 hours, you will be 37.5 miles from the leading edge of the storm. As you drive, the storm will gain on you at a rate of (storm travel speed - car travel speed = 8.875 MPH). The gap of 37.5 miles already established will diminish to zero in 4.2 Hours. By then you will be 13.2 miles away from the where you were for a total of 50.2 miles away from where you started.

Most storms are diminished by at least a whole category by then, and we are only talking about the leading edge of the storm. By then, the traffic may be moving at a higher rate.

Moral of the story. Its no too late to leave, but don't wait.

Hope ya'll staying in NO stay safe. My nephew called me from Houston in a tizzy... he and what sounded like several dozen of his friends all drove from NO to Houston and now they are all sitting around watching TWC and worrying about people who didn't evac. Sigh. He asked me how safe Kenner was and I was like... Kenner? I dunno. I don't know NO...

The kids are actually sitting there using a ruler on the tv ... dreading The Big Flood. I feel so bad for them.

I just hope as many people do what they need to to be safe.

Sorry about the ramble. Guess I've got some kinda storm by proxy burnout... seems all my friends and relatives have been askin me what to do anytime a hurricane has threatened. So then I stress about whether they'll follow my advise - usually get out of there!
