"Dean4Storms" is also from Destin and also on the bay. I think he evacuated. Not sure. No word from him - probably no utilities.

My guess is they were 60 miles from the east eyewall and got some surge of maybe a few feet...

I have family on Santa Rosa Beach. They did not evacuate, and they are fine, much to my surprise. I talked to them this morning, but that was before they were able to get out to see anything. So, I don't know anthing as far as damage info. But they had power, phone, but no cable.

Mom said she saw Jim Cantore on Miramar Beach today on TWC. Damage there was reportedly minimal. Pompano Joe's and Crab Trap are still standing though there really isn't much of a beach left.

Holiday Isle is under three feet of sand according to a firefighter neighbor. Not surprising since that area is so low it's a category 1 surge zone. Probably some minor structure damage in spots, but it's starting to sound like if you're in a category 3 surge zone or better, you probably came through okay.

My brother's girlfriend's family has a condo in Destin that had some roof and boardwalk damage. Not sure which one or how extensive.

Just posted in another thread... someone called into CNN about this tonight. The guy said it wasn't as bad as they had feared. There was some 50 mph winds, but apparently unless it's on the very immediate coast it's likely OK.

I know that the Hwy 98 bridge connecting Destin and Ft. Walton Beach is gone...but, that's all I've really heard on the news about Destin.

Drove down there today to check on the family condo. Mid Bay Bridge and 20 through Niceville are passable. 85 from Niceville to I-10, I'm not sure if it's reopened yet. 285 might be a useable alternative route from I-10. Power was on at Publix and a few places around it. Looked like the little Chinese restaurant next to Bonefish Grill was open.

Looked like the damage was pretty minimal unless you're directly on the Gulf (bad erosion) or Holiday Isle.
