Boards for windows

#1 Postby jes » Sat Sep 18, 2004 4:03 pm

When they come to take the 3/4 inch boards off my windows do I have to paint them? I want to save them for future use and plan to keep them in a dry place. I just don't want to have to paint them--they are too heavy to move around.

it depends upon how the plywood is stored. if the wood is dry, and will be stored in an environmentally controlled area (read air conditioning) then you probably don't have to paint it. the trick is you don't want the wood stored anywhere where the humidity will fluculate. This causes warpage and delamination. if you aren't sure, then paint. Be sure to paint edges thorughly though. too many people miss the edges which is generally the easiest are for water pentration.

Thanks so much. I had decided to store them in my unairconditioned storage unit that I lease. I thought they would stay dry and I could paint them in the spring---but that evidently would not have worked. I will go ahead and paint them now. Thanks again - those boards cost a total of $491.00 and I don't need to ruin them.
