Contractor to begin work to open westbound lane for two-way traffic in 24 days.

Escambia Bridge to re-open in just a few days.

I-10 is a major East/West artery. They'll do whatever it takes to get one span open asap.

No, it can be done in 24 days or less. Just depends on the desire, it is technically possible. Emergency concrete mixes can cure to the desired strength of 5,500 psi in 24 hours easily.

Considering FDOT's usual snail-like pace, it's amazing how fast they can fix things in a crisis situation.

They're supposed to have enough of US 98 between Destin and Ft. Walton Beach passable for two way traffic within 30 days as well.

You beat me to it! lol They actually pump that concrete in. It was explained to me today how it can be done. Kinda neat!!

I'm a consultant engineering that works for and as the FDOT. I've had emergency bridge repairs that take only 3 hours to cure enough to allow traffic to go over a closed bridge.

My speciality is soils and foundations and if the pile caps are affected the repairs will be interesting.

I travel that bridge 2 - 4 times a month on my trip back and forth to New Orleans. I cannot believe it actually fell apart. It reminds me of the Bay Bridge in San Francisco collapsing b/c of the earthquake years ago.

I am very impressed that they are getting all the bridge repairs done so quickly! Amazing what can be done when it is really needed and people pull together.

Some guy was speaking at the post-hurricane briefing yesterday (sorry I dont recall his name) and he said that it appeared that the damage was worse than their visual inspection first indicated. They were talking about bringing in a military-style floating bridge... (that's paraphrased, so I apologize now if something there was incorrect)
