question
Some of you may think this is a dumb question but I am trying to learn. Does a full moon have any effects on the tropics? As far as development I mean. I know it has an effect on tides. We don't have a full moon until Sept. 28th but just had me thinking.

I'm not pro, but I know that the moon phases effect tides... so maybe there is some effect that we just aren't able to measure?
I'm embarrassed to admit I've never checked to see if higher tides or spring tides correlate with certain moon phases, but if they do, then there probably is an effect when a storm comes to shore. Maybe?

interesting question....in this day of sat pix, radar, buoys, high speed computers we have lost of lot of our history and ability to read nature in regards to storms. it's pretty much fact that natives in the carib areas knew what was going to happen by reading signs...we know that they knew...we just do not know the 'how' they knew...we have lost that from our reliance of technology. so does the moon play a role? ask a native 1,000 years ago...

That brings me to a rumor I heard about the local Indian tribes after Charley hit. Heard they think that minerals in this area cause stoms to steer away from the Tampa Bay area. I searched the net and came up with nothing on it. I don't personally believe it to be true but thought I'd add the the conversation.

I don't know about minerals per say, but my sister, who has lived in and near the Tampa area for over 20 years, tells me that there is a story that says that the Indians put a protective wall around the Tampa Bay area....
