Ivan Rain...

#1 Postby Sean in New Orleans » Wed Sep 22, 2004 8:16 pm

Got about an inch from a squall a little over an hour ago. The first "go-around," with Ivan I got less than .10", so, suffice it to say, Ivan is much more wet this go around. Bring on more rain--we need it in New Orleans!! Winds are gusty around 15 to 20 knots...not too much wind.

That is about what we got when remnants passed over Florida.

You all need the rain and I'm glad you're getting it. I'm hoping it'll be just a breezy rain event and nothing else. I hate it when the ground dries up
Good Luck!

Looking at the latest sat. loops, convection is exploding just north of the center of Ivan. I can also make out the rest of the LLC on IR and it definately looks to be moving WNW. I'm just hoping to get some rain out of this but I have fears it will pass south of us keeping us locked in the drought :(.

Here too in Dallas at the moment - they said rain may affect us by Friday

(David Finfrock - Channel 5)

But of course this is Texas and it could be raining by morning . . . sorta like South Louisiana and those afternoon thunderstorms that pop up from nowhere!

I hear ya PT, but you should be somewhat encouraged by the evening update from the Lake Charles NWS office. They've upped Acadiana's chances for precip, with a 70% chance tomorrow and 100% on Friday. Haven't seen any encouraging news of that sort for those of us to the east, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the southerly shear will blow some of that convection far enough north to drop on us.

From the LCH AFD:
AT THIS TIME...FLOODING IS NOT EXPECTED TO BE A MAJOR CONCERN AS VERY DRY CONDITIONS HAVE EXISTED FOR THE LAST MONTH. IF IVAN SLOWS DOWN... RAIN TOTALS WILL INCREASE AS WELL AS THE POSSIBILITY OF FLOODING. AT THIS TIME...3 TO 5 INCHES OF RAIN IS FORECAST FOR SOUTHEAST TEXAS...2 TO 4 FOR SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA AND 1
TO 3 INCHES FOR SOUTH-CENTRAL LOUISIANA.

BPT 71 84 71 84 / 20 70 100 40
