It may not have been a hurricane in the Pacific, but it became a hurricane and hit the U.S.A.

I don't know about from the Pacific to the GOM, but in 1996 Hurricane Cesar crossed Nicaragua and moved into the eastern North Pacific where it reintensified and became Hurricane Douglas.

What if Ceasar had crossed Nicaragua into the pacific, then turned due north and ended up back on the Atlantic side and redeveloped. Would have been called Ceasar again?

If the core remained intact... yes.

If it happened in previous years, yes. If it happened this year, the storm would have been renamed Ivan

In 1961, after hitting Belize, Hurricane Hattie entered the EPAC and was renamed Tropical Storm Simone. Simone moved over Mexico and into the Gulf. Simone was renamed Tropical Storm Inga.

Also, Hurricane Cosme struck Mexico in 1989, entered the Gulf, and became Tropical Storm Allison. Allison hit Texas.
