After landfall question

#1 Postby plazaglass » Thu Sep 23, 2004 11:51 am

Let's assume for the sake of this discussion that Jeanne holds to the 11:00 a.m. forecast track -- landfall around south-central Florida and it rides up the coastline....

What would this ride of a few hundred miles partially over land do to the intensity of the storm? I would expect at least a little less intensity, but is it unreasonable to expect a significant decrease by the time it reaches the Florida/Georiga border?

Thanks for all thoughts/opinions on this hypothetical scenario.

NHC TPC calls for 65knots (Cat 1 minimal) with gusts to 80knots (93mph) when it is at the FL/GA border.

We will be on the north side of the storm for quite some time.

Winds will start saturday morning (20-25mph) and increase through till monday afternoon.

It will be simliar to another Frances for us, except this time with 70-80mph winds instead of 40-50mph.

Expect lots of trees down with the soaked grounds we have.

Thanks, jdray. Just trying to get an early grip on whether to stay, leave or just go crazy.

Higher winds than Frances? After going through that, leaving may be the winner.
