What do canes have against daylight and weekdays?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Except for Ivan, haven't most of the hurricanes made US landfall on weekends and at night?

I recall joking about it with coworkers last year also -- everytime something was a possible threat, folks were on edge over the weekend because there was no way for us to all be in contact and confer together.

Ivan made his first U.S. landfall in the middle of the night... 3am.

Charley hit at 4pm on a Friday, but Frances came in at 1am on a Sunday.

But Charley hit the most populated areas in the dark!

And while 1am on a Sunday is usually not considered weekend anymore, Monday was a holiday, so it WAS weekend!

Why can't they pick...say... Wed around 3pm instead?

Probably the same reason that kids only get really sick at 2AM or on the weekend! Unless of course it's a holiday, then weekdays are fair game! :D

I hate nighttime landfalls. It takes the fun out of tracking them because I can't be awake at 3am...

That's it..Hurricanes love "show" and the light show and terror factor is better in the dark!
yeah, and with everyone's "freetime" ruined, even more effect.
Now that's a PT Barnum philosophy, that must be why Barnum wanted to be headquartered on the FL gulf!

Night time landfalls are good if your like my husband who put his earplugs in and slept like a baby all night.

They are bad if your like me, and you're terrified of tornados and you can't sleep a wink all night and you're mad at your husband because doesn't he know that a tornado could be coming and whisk his wife and two kids away and he wouldn't even know it and how could he possibly be so selfish as to put earplugs in, go to sleep and snore all night!
