NHC at 11:00 - "ON THE OTHER HAND"?

#1 Postby Doc Seminole » Fri Sep 24, 2004 10:32 pm

You know...... the five day is debatable ....... the 3 day is pretty good...... but the 24+ hour forecast? "On The Other Hand"? I don't know folks..... seems the NHC could get a little closer than "On the other hand" when it's this close in. "On the other hand" could be the difference between destruction to windy.......

A GRADUAL TURN TO THE NORTHWEST AND NORTH SHOULD BEGIN AS THE HIGH SHIFTS EASTWARD. ALTHOUH WE ARE CONFIDENT THAT THE NORTHWARD TURN WILL OCCUR...ONLY A FEW MORE HOURS OF ADDITIONAL WESTWARD MOTION THAN
ANTICIPATED WOULD BRING THE CORE OF THE HURRICANE FARTHER INLAND OVER THE PENINSULA. ON THE OTHERHAND...THE HURRICANE COULD ALSO MAKE THE TURN EARLIER AND SLIDE ALONG THE EAST COAST OF FLORIDA.

......tired out Floridian...... flame me if you want but I can say that I am indeed as of now..... weary of this.

It does seem like it's getting close enough to make an educated guess at the least. After Charley, there's probably a lot of CYA going on -- understandable, but frustrating for those in limbo.

If they're uncertain, I'd rather have them say so than lie to us. I think we forget sometimes that hurricanes are still in many ways very unpredictable and mysterious, even to the most expert of experts who are privvy to the most sophisticated scientific instrumentation and data.

Yeah, it is frustrating, but it's not because of willful incompetence on anyone's part.

What frustrates me is that they can't seem to tell you until hours before it will hit, where it will hit.

In which case, what use are they? By then, "I" could tell you where it will hit.

Bonz, frustrated at it all.

It could make that turn before it reaches the coast. I'm praying for you guys that it does--- Many mets have said this turn could occur before it reaches the coast, and almost all have the "on the other hand, as well," and plow it straight into the peninsula.

Quite frankly, the NHC has done an outstanding job this year as far as I'm concerned. They are not able to pinpoint the exact location of landfall because this is nature, there are many variables. Don't look at the center line in the cone. The cone means it can go anywhere in that area! If you don't like this answer then maybe we should take some of that millions of dollars going into the presidential campaign from both sides and donate it to the weather service. Better yet, go back to school and volunteer! Can they pinpoint a tornado yet? Can they pinpoint where a blizzard is going to happen and when? NO, they can give you a general area. Just imagine what our forefathers went through that had no warning, no satellites, etc. On a positive note, I think people are paying more attention and listening. At least in the panhandle here we do after Opal. I don't think I've seen so many places boarded up in all my life growing up here. All I know after we were hit with Ivan last week my faith in humanity has been restored. I've never seen so many volunteers and tireless workers give to their community in such a fashion since 9-11.

Godspeed to all. Hope I didn't rant but I'm exhausted mentally and physically but if another storm comes my way, I'm ready!

Maybe "they" should take those millions and give it to Storm2K! How much does a dropsonde cost anyway?
