This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

#1 Postby jpigott » Sat Sep 25, 2004 4:46 am

i know many of the mets here (Derek, SouthernWX, donsutherland, etc., sorry if i left anyone out) last night were thinking landfall somewhere bwtn N Lauderdale to Palm Beach County/Martin County Line, somewhat south of NHC. Just wondering if our mets are still thinking same thing. When do they usually post their morning forecasts

I'm half asleep, but still feel the same way as last night....landfall in the Palm Beach to Stuart area....crossing the coast around latitude 26.8-27.0 N...with sustained winds of 125 mph, gusting to 155 mph.

I expect Jeanne's eye to pass near or just north of Grand Bahama Island (after a slight jog NW to get around the north end of Great Abaco), then come due west into Palm Beach and Martin counties..

After landfall I forecast recurvature toward the north end of Lake Okeechobee...then toward Lakeland, and then north into Georgia near Valdosta.

One note: with the large size of Jeanne....a large area of the Florida east coast will experience hurricane conditions....and the large eye will likely pass over the coastal areas from just south of West Palm Beach northward to the Stuart/ Hobe Sound area.

While I'm forecasting a 125 mph hurricane at landfall, I'd be preparing for a 135-145 mph cat-4 if I lived in Jeanne's path. If the inner core isn't disrupted by Great Abaco Island....Jeanne may deepen rapidly while passing near Grand Bahama Island and crossing the Gulf Stream.
