to Board or not to board...Tampa is the question
Since we were having this debate in a couple of threads, I thought I'd go ahead and take a poll. (Hope that's not making too many threads on the same topic -- my apologies in advance if it is!)

I don't live in Tampa, but I'm so sick of these things that I have no idea what to do.
I live in the path of this one (between Gainesville and Palatka). We lost power from Frances for 10 days. I'm not boarding up, because I don't have the money. Financially, this has been a nightmare (repairing soaked carpet, eating out, and losing the food in the freezer). I'm hoping we're inland enough to make it.

Well, if you think about what you're boarding up for...flying debris hitting your windows. I would board if I felt the winds in my area were going to be strong enough to make big heavy things fly through the air. Which doesn't happen until pretty strong wind speeds. So even if it hits as a 3 on the east coast, it will likely weaken by the time it gets to Tampa, one or two categories, and the NHC is still not showing that it will even go over to Tampa. Likely you'll just get TS winds if the track runs true as hurricane force winds are only extending out 75 miles anyway.
So if it were me, I would not board this time (I am 60 miles south of Tampa, and am not boarding). I boarded for Ivan and Charley which were more imminent and severe threats to our coastline.

We live 43 miles south of Tampa, and haven't decided whether to board the windows. Boarded for Frances--which brought down all of the big avocados and some of the fence. Now the avocados are gone, and the fence is being replaced as we speak. We have to secure all of the new fence materials, and then there are those big grapefuits...
