Jeanne's producing the strongest winds recorded here all day

#1 Postby Stormsfury » Mon Sep 27, 2004 8:51 pm

SUSTAINED WINDS 24 MPH Gusts to 37 MPH at the CHS APT

Just recorded a sustained wind of 23 MPH ... PK GUST ... 39 MPH ....

Believe it or not, there's been MORE power surges during Jeanne than there's been with Frances, and Gaston COMBINED!

(power lines on the south side of the road, with southerly winds causing tree branches to contact them ... numerous transformer hits, at LEAST 5-6 surges already).

Should also add, the current temperature NEARING the 10 PM hour is still 81º ...

Aside from the warm temp (ATL didn't get much above 70 all day), that's pretty much what we've had here. Still, Ivan hit ATL much worse than did Jeanne (at least in my neck of the woods). Only difference is that we (somewhat) knew to expect really bad stuff from Ivan. They didn't expect ATL to get much from Jeanne, and we got more than we bargained for!

Jeanne's breathing her last here in our area. Thank goodness. Good-bye, and good riddance Jeanne.

Stay safe...and keep us updated as you can.

SVR TS WARNING up for the Northern Portion of Dorchester County, and even worse, the huge squall line is now training over the same areas ... just west of here and up due north into the Midlands ... rainfall rates from these storms are 2"-3" PER HOUR ...

I would have to say I am very lucky here in Myrtle as all we have seen was a tiny bit of rain and a slight breeze. Of course Tons of tornado warnings, but the sky is actually clear.

The center of Jeanne is now just north of due west of CHS and the huge squall line, although the individual storms are RACING NNE to N at 45 KTS-48 KTS(52-56 MPH), the line itself isn't moving (NET movement - zilch) ...

We didn't have the steady, heavy rains that occurred in SW GA up to ATL today, but the convective bands have produced incredible rainfall RATES of 2"-3" PER HOUR ... so far in my location, these heavy cells and bands didn't last no more than 20 minutes at a time, yet still since last night (26 HOUR Storm Total of over 2" ... still haven't emptied the gauge due to the strong winds that MIGHT blow the gauge over ...

Raining Cats and Dogs here at High Rock Lake. The lake is already slam full, but at least, no tornado warnings yet.

I'll be glad when we're down to kittens and puppies here. Hopefully that will be soon.

Charleston has fared pretty well, at least where I'm at. Looks like the winds are slowing and the weather will be back to normal by the end of today, maybe tomorrow.
