If the hurricane season finish today...

#1 Postby Fego » Tue Sep 28, 2004 1:36 am

... it will set a record anyway. Read this statement from NWS San Juan, Puerto Rico.

DISCUSSION...
FINALLY A QUIET NIGHT AT WORK WITH LISA FAR OUT TO SEA AND
JEANNE NOW HPC'S RESPONSIBILITY. TO REFLECT ON HOW BUSY IT HAS
BEEN SO FAR... THIS IS THE MOST ACTIVE SEASON TO DATE UP UNTIL
SEPT 27 EVER SEEN IN TERMS OF NOAA'S ACCUMULATED CYCLONE ENERGY
(ACE) INDEX. IN FACT...IF THE SEASON ENDED TODAY...2004 WOULD BE
THE 5TH MOST ACTIVE ACE SINCE RECORDS BEGAN IN 1851...WITH 1950-
1893-1995-1926 BEING THE TOP 4. ONTO THE CURRENT WEATHER...

WOW 1893 had a late season long track Cape Verde storm that crawled its way through the Atlantic before making landfall in SC.

Another interesting thing of note, each of those seasons mentioned in that discussion had a October threat or hit to some portion of Fla

Its not over yet

That was the 2nd of two major hurricanes to strike South Carolina that year, the first being the Sea Islands Hurricane in August 1893 which killed 2,000 along the GA/SC coastline ... the two storms hit only 6 weeks apart ...

Looks like that storm took a really long time to cross the Atlantic.
