This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Stupidest movie ever made. Criminally stupid.

#1 Postby KeyLargoDave » Sat Oct 02, 2004 10:09 pm

This Sci-Fi Channel "500 mph hurricane" movie is so, so incredibly stupid. It makes "Dante's Peak" look like Shakespeare.

1. The 500 mph hurricane is formed by a meteor passing within 30 Km of earth.

2. The government has a secret military weapon that can form hurricanes. It can also be used to destroy them.

3. When the secret military mission flies into the eye, the wind speed is 500 mph in the eye. But it is sunny and there are birds lolling around.

4. The second they deploy the secret weapon -- a parachute hooked to a giant generator bank, which creates a cool special-effects "ion cloud" -- the hurricane wind speed starts dropping, "499, 498, 497, 490...." It works!

5. "We're downgrading from a hurricane to a tropical depression!"

6. Two scientists have to parachute out of the secret military ion-parachute plane while it's headed back from the weakened hurricane toward Homestead. The scientists land in the Antarctic.

If anyone spotted anything more ridiculous about the "science," please let us know.

I couldn't agree more. That thing had me yelling at the screen over the bad "science" it was depicting within 2 minutes and it never got any better, only worse.

This thing needs the MST3K treatment, stat.

I know we all love storms here but, if the movie was so bad and unrealistic, why did you watch the whole thing?

I felt a duty to the tropical-weather community. And, really, is there ever anything worth watching on Saturday night TV?

Well, I guess I'm glad that I had a gig tonight ...

the way that everyone has made this sound, the movie is about as real as Pam Anderson's chest ...

I gave it 10 minutes I think..We happen to catch the critical part where the pod is released and starts it's Majic....LMAO

These producers are ignorant from reality in any form..hence Sci-Fake..

Perry could write a great script of gloom and doom with some harsh reality and real scientific theory...

Go For it Perry...No Kidding..

I wanna know what nasty favor somebody did to get that on TV...

While I agree that it was a very stupid movie.....you kind of got some details mixed up:

1. The hurricane already existed....the meteor just screwed it up.

2. Check

3. Common sense tells everyone that the winds were in the eyewall. Of COURSE it is sunny in the eye......it's supposed to be.

4. Check

5. Just possibly the worst point in the movie.

6. Remember.....it's a "superstorm".......and it's in Greenland....not the Antarctic.

7. Why did they use pictures of Hurricane Opal? They kept saying eastern seaboard......they would use different pictures of different hurricanes to show the same storm (confusing).

8. The first hurricane "hit without warning".....caused by a "sudden turn" 48 hours before landfall.......give me a break, I think the NHC is smarter than that.

9. I think this movie was inspired by the theories of "Great"one.

Dont forget - what exactly is a CLASS 5 hurricane? You would think that they could have at least got a simple term correct.

Considering the screenwriter also wrote a B-flick about overly-aggressive sharks in the GOM http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0391908/ and those were his only flicks, I'll pass.

However, the stupidest movie EVER made would have to be Kingpin, IMO. :)
