Is it me or is the Eastern Pacific quiet?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Their hurricane season started May 14th, produced 1 storm and is now quiet.

Is this normal?

Statisically, the EPAC experiences 0.3 tropical cyclones in May. 2.5 is the average for June. Therefore, by June 30th (11 days away) the EPAC averages 2.8 storms. So it looks like a quiet start...

The EPAC is very quiet so far this year.

During the quiet years in the the Atlantic (1975-94) the EPAC
would be lit up like a Christmas tree. Now the roles appear to
have reversed somewhat.

Based on 1980 through 2004, the following years had only one pre-July storm: 1987, 1995, 1999, and 2004.

In 1987, the EPAC had 18 storms over the Atlantic's 7
In 1995, the EPAC had 10 storms over the Atlantic's 19
In 1999, the EPAC had 9 storms over the Atlantic's 12
In 2004, the EPAC had 12 storms over the Altantic's 15

When looking at activing in the EPAC versus the Atlantic (yearly EPAC storm divided by yearly Atlantic storms)...

With one pre-July storm, the EPAC averaged 92% activity when compared to the Atlantic.
With two pre-July storms, the EPAC averaged 147% activity when compared to the Atlantic.
With three pre-July storms, the EPAC averaged 157% activity when compared to the Atlantic.
With four pre-July storms, the EPAC averaged 175% activity when compared to the Atlantic.
With five pre-July storms, the EPAC averaged 158% activity when compared to the Atlantic.

You are not quiet but the Eastern Pacific is.
(Sorry about that but I guess I'm a little bored waiting for the next storm to form.)
