Not much talk about this, but Havana is set to get destroyed

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

It looks like the offical NHC track is right over the Havana metro area with 2+ million.

Hopefully this NW shift spares them.

Close... might slide east of them which would spare them Cat 4 winds at least.

Yes, this projected crossing is in a very populous area. Cuba has a pretty good reputation for doing evacuations, but this is going to be a huge job, and the infrastructure isn't exactly great down there.

I'm very concerned for them.

I pray for the Cuban people, with one exception, Fidel. :(

Actually, either way, Havana is in trouble. The west side of the storm will be the worst for the surge, as they are on the north shore of the island. The east side would be the worst for the wind.

Cuba's buildings are not up to the kind of code we require in America. It's not uncommon to have several families living in an old and run-down building. There just isn't much wealth in Cuba.

I really hope for the people there that this does not turn out to be as bad as it appears to be shaping up to be.

Toss his brother and a bunch of other top officials in there with Fidel and I'll second the sentiment.

Give historical relations with the govt of Cuba a Google. S2K no longer has a political forum to discuss this (for many good reasons).

I do know that Cuba has one of the lowest infant mortality rate in the world and that ALL cubans have access to good quality education and health care which you can't say about the good ol' USA.

Of course, the trade-of is lack of freedom. But not everything there is bad. We can learn some things from Castro.

At least, that's what the Cuban government (ie Fidel himself) reports to the outside world. Alas, there is no way to actually confirm this claim.

Sure there is. Google and learn from yourself. lots of independent organizations have verified this.
