Louisiana Offshore Oil Facilities?

I recall there being a program recently about a hurricane destroying La. offshore oil facilities, sending the price of oil skyrocketing. Where are these facilities located and is there any realistic threat to them from Dennis?

Oil Storm ... and many other factors fed into that movie.. documentary (sci fi?) ...... but this has to put a hurt on the off shore industry and can only cause more headaches for us the consumers..... interesting to see what the stock market does come monday.... not going to be pretty.

One of the major reasons oil hit over $60/barrel this week is because of Dennis.

I guess it's a good thing Dennis will be onshore by Monday- if this were a weekday, you'd see a lot of panic on oil markets I imagine. More likely than not, the oil infrastructure will survive in good shape.

As awful as this storm is going to be for some people, it APPEARS that Dennis will miss the majority of the rigs and/or the LOOP -- the offshore unloading port just SE of New Orleans that is the biggest US import facility in the entire country. So while gas prices, oil prices, heating oil prices, etc. have soared on the futures markets in the past week in the FEAR of Dennis impacting production, it's likely they will pull back this coming week unless Dennis hangs a left and makes landfall in MS or LA.

<P>There is quite a realistic threat. The waves from a storm of this magnitude extend quite a distance from the eye, and Dennis is headed to an area of extensive offshore facilities.<P>It won't be as bad as Ivan, the damage which we've just finished repairing last month, by the way, because it's coming from a different angle. Still, we've evacuated all our offshore facilities from New Orleans to Florida, and it's stopped several deepwater rigs from drilling operations.<P>I can almost guarantee you that this will disrupt some production for several months.<P>I work for an oil company that has extensive operations in the affected area and the crisis team was assembled about 2 days before Dennis made landfall in Cuba.
