Its possible because of the Eddie to the northeast that Ivan runned over last year. Plus the water is much warmer close to the coast because there has not been a system like Charley,Frances to cool it down before hand over the eastern Gulf. I would not be suprized.

It's possible... It's just impossible to describe the amount of energy that would take. I mean, cat 4's and 5's fluctuate in strength all the time. Take Ivan for example. Weakened from a cat. 5 to a cat. 4 several times, just because it's impossible to continually give out THAT much energy.

So yes, it's possible. However, I say it's unlikely.

Category 5 is possible, but, we have to remember Category 5 storms are very rare. And for it to occur in early July would be historical...

It was 937 mb and 150 mph. 933 mb might warrent a Cat 5. I dont think so, but we will see.

Dennis has been upgraded to a cat 4 so if someone can throw their opinion in I will say it could get to cat 5.

I see nothing coming out of the states that could move it or shear it.

Please advise if any of you differ.

Dont think he will become a cat 5, at least def not at land fall. But a 3 is basically guaranteed, and a 4 is likely.
