I-10 Bridge has been closed for hours. I believe that all spans of the bridge are intact. Hopefully we will get to see shots of the bridge after the hurricane passes.

Crestview is 30 miles inland, and is a pretty common place for beach people to evac to.

I would think those people had no idea of what a hurricane really is. From working in a resort I can tell you allot of times the people who have never experienced a hurricane just don't understand that they cover a large area and last for hours and hours. Many think only the ocean front get winds and water, and that once the eye makes landfall it is over... many from inland that have lived in a Tornado area think of them like that. They affect a small area and come and are gone in a short time. It is very hard to explain to someone who has not been through it or has knowledge of hurricanes about them.

In some ways, it's safer to be in a sturdy building in Crestview than to try to make Birmingham or Montgomery. Northern evacuation cities get slammed worse than you'd expect.

We went to Jax because we didn't want to deal with thr inland flooding and tornadoes.

Crestview would typically be a better choice than say, the beach, or Gulf Breeze.

I personally agree witht he idea of evacuating further away, like out of the storm's path. But that is not what is recommended. They recommend you evacuate somewhere nearby by safer, that's waht these people did.
