National Geographic feature on hurricanes

#1 Postby baygirl_1 » Thu Jul 28, 2005 10:44 pm

We just got our copy of the August issue of National Geographic magazine. They have an interesting feature about hurricanes, particularly the hurricanes of 2004. They do have info in there about SSTs and quotes from Dr. Chris Landsea. You can view parts of the feature at this website:

There are some amazing photos, too.
Enjoy!

Thanks for the links. Brought back a lot of memories. I remember going down to Orange Beach the first time. It was about a week and half after Ivan came through the area. My husband had already been down there and said it look like a war zone. Little did I know but being down there and seeing it first hand puts it all in a different perspective. It was the worst thing I have ever witness. I remember going to the condo and we had to pass what was the View. National Guard armed with guns. Just an eerie feeling!

The large photo of Grande Lagoon, Pensacola was incredible. Surge is what took those houses out in the seaside photos...

My sister's principal lived in that area I believe. She lost everything.
