My thoughts on Hurricane Katrina

I think Hurricane Katrina will exit the coast of Florida in about 12 hours or so, near Bonita Springs/Naples/Everglades City area as a Tropical Storm of 60 mph.

I think it will regroup into a hurricane in about 24-36 hours, and then rapidly deepen into a 125 mph Category 3 Major Hurricane near landfall in the Destin/Pensacola area of Florida.

However, as we know...systems like to jump up faster than normal...so a Category 4 hurricane is very possible, especially if it moves farther west.

Wow, that would be wild. Can you give us some reasons for your forecast? Do you think Florida's land impact will be minimal on Katrina's power, and do you foresee a Charley-like situation? Thanks, always enjoy your input.

Florida is the best land for a hurricane. It will weaken some, but not much. No mountains...just flat wet land. Plus...it appears to be moving south of the forecast. This will bring it off the coast a little sooner IMO. Also, the system will continue to get a better organized upper level pattern and structure...even if it weakens to a tropical storm.

Not Charley like IMO...maybe Dennis like. More of a steady deepening like Dennis...90 mph...105 mph...115...125...140..

honestly I see Katrina if it where to go in that sort of track I think it would go a little more west ward and hit more in the mobile area as a mid strength cat 3 to a boarderline cat 4
