Climatology in regards to June Eastern Caribbean waves

#1 Postby Stormsfury » Thu Jun 12, 2003 8:54 am

This is a repost from another area in its' own separate thread...

Just another bit of climatology information ... no tropical storm development has occurred in the Eastern Caribbean in June ... The furthest east where a system became a tropical storm in the Caribbean was 16ºN, 78.0ºW and that occurred June 24th, 1907...(first track plot) since the strong wave (remnants of T.D. #2) looks to be heading that way ...

Interesting. IMO its probably because the TUTT is generally running strong in June. Then again, tropical storm development in the eastern Caribbean is not that common in any given month.

Yes, because the trough doesn't diminish all that much throughout the entire season.

The interaction of southamerica has to do also with the lack of developments in the eastern caribbean all the time not only in june.

Isn't that area known as the area of death for many systems? I know there is a nickname, but I can't think of it right this minute.

That is it... I think I have heard it called the Hurricane graveyard. Thanks Luis for jogging my memory! :)
