Orleans/Jeff Parish Officials

#1 Postby gk1 » Sat Aug 27, 2005 1:11 pm

Am I being Critical saying that Emergency Officials from Orleans and Jeff Parish are waiting too long to call for Contra-Flow. A press conference was called at 7am to announce that a press conference would be held at 12 noon to announce that "we are waiting to see later this afternoon to possibly start contra-flow and evac.

Yeah, too critical. They realize that people need to still take care of things they need to take care of and are trying ot meet those needs before shutting down the normal interstate traffic flow and making it all one way. The traffic is piling up as per the other thread where I posted the I-10 webcams. There's a pretty big exodus which should continue for the next 24 hours or so. I'm willing to bet that despite the recent spate of 60-70% evacuations to be on the safe side, the majority of people who can leave will be out by tomorrow night.

they are treating this one perfectly......people will get out in time....if they choose to. the whole 72 hour thing is based on getting out before tropical storm gusts arrive.....while not ideal, driving in tropical storm winds can be done.

can you leave the city, with all the traffic coming from the east heading west, within 12-18 hours. That' s all the time we will have if they leave when the call is given at say 8am Sunday!!!!

Maybe they are waiting for tomorrow morning figureing that anyone with any sense is getting out today and tonight. Once they order an evac they will have to have somewhere for the folks to go and there is nowhere in NOLA really safe. Another thought is that it is already too late to fully evac SE Louisiana entirely so why not wait and hope that the cane turns away.
