50 mph gusts being felt over 200 mi. east in W/SW FL

The effects of this storm will be felt even 200+ miles east. We just had
50 mph wind gusts slam through.

Awesome & thanks for the report. I love feeder bands. It's sunny and breezy here today. Usually before a threat that's 48 hours out or whatever, it tends to get hot and still here. I think this says something about Katrina's sphere of influence that it's already a tad breezy here and you're getting a rainband and so is Cuba. It all adds up to a big Gulf storm.

Nothing at all here in Sarasota except a little rain shower, but the tide was unusually high when I was at Lido Key this morning. Almost all of Lido Beach was submerged.

There was a few heavy, very tropical, showers overhead here near the Space Center last night. On satellite they were embedded within a moderate cloud band along Katrina's outer fringe... no winds, however.

She is getting bigger. The long range radar is fulled with convection. The Tampa Area discussion said dry air?? Where is it.

We have had several rainbands move through here today. Gets sunny, hot and still, no birds even singing. I look towards the SE and it looks clear, then I look towards the west or wnw and it is black. About to have another one come in.... can't say I like getting the rain we have been needing this way though...

My prayers are with everyone who will be affected by this storm.... we (here in N. central FL) dodged the bullet (most likely) this time but the season is just getting started I'm afraid.

I'm about 70 miles south of Tampa and 20 miles south of Sarasota, 1/2 mile from the Gulf. We've had just a few little rain storms with no thunder/lightning, and very little wind, but it's looking VERY dark right now toward the southwest. Thanks for the reports on the gusty conditions up in Tampa, I'll keep an eye out.

We have not even had 1/2" of rain during this entire event. It's been so dry here near the coast lately that I was almost hoping we'd get about four or five inches to give the plants a good drink.
