Good Luck and best wishes from Scotland

#1 Postby tealandsilver » Sun Aug 28, 2005 4:13 pm

Guys, been following our news broadcasts here in Scotland which mentioned Hurricane Katrina and the "mandatory" evacuation of New Orleans. Searching through Google brought me to your forum with it's amazing breadth of information. I can't quite get my head around how you go about organising an effective evacuation of what, around a million people with presumably a fair percentage of elderly and infirm (and hospitalised) who aren't capable of being moved, and all of this in a very tight timescale.

Also working in the Electricity Supply Industry for the past 27 years I have experienced first hand weather related incidents on power networks and infrastructure. Unfortunately due to the nature of the work, many people working in Power Stations, distribution networks, public services etc will be classed as key personnel and will not be able (or allowed) to evacuate,

Good luck and prayers for all you guys having to stay behind to "watch the shop" and also to every-one else unable to evacuate. Look out for each other,

Slainte,

David

Thank you, David, for your kind words. Agreeing that the people out in the Gulf Coast area will very much appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

I think they'll need as many prayers as we all can spare.

David, how heartening to realize that someone so far a way is showing such genuine concern for New Orleans. Please spread the word and ask your fellow Scots to pray. Thank you.

Welcome David!! We have quite a few members from across the pond.

I'm sure that those that are in Katrina's way will appreciate your concern for their safety.
