Disturbed Graveyards?

#1 Postby WaryEye » Sun Aug 28, 2005 8:48 pm

This is too much....

Just heard Fox channel talking with NO mayor saying that the historic graveyards could be unearthed on Bourbon St. My stomach just did an extra turn or two.

This is not surprising. Bodies in New Orleans are buried above ground because of the water table being so high.

I don't think it's the long dead that will be the most serious issue in this storm, though. It will be the recently dead.

Remember hurricane Floyd and the flooding in NC? Many, many floating coffins afterwards. I fear that the worst for those in NO who stayed isn't necessarily going to be the hurricane, but rather the aftermath of dealing with all the problems that the hurricane will cause. The whole area will be a watery cesspool (literally). Try living under conditions like that.

I know, you are absolutely right. It's just that the vision of this occurring and people returning from evac to no homes and instead, sewage and disturbed souls ...... well it just makes me so sad.

Sad to say but the bodies are the least of the problems. Compared to snakes, gators, west nile from skeeters, rabies from the displaced coons and possums, typhoid, fire ants and heaven only knows what other toxic sludge. My heart bleeds for these people.

Well then someone is "gravely" misinformed ( no pun intended ) because I wouldn't make it up. Then again it was Geraldo Rivera that asked the question.

Did anyone else hear this interview on Fox? Are there other graveyards near Bourbon? I searched on yahoo and can't find anything. <sigh> Back to CNN.

A few blocks away I think. try St. Louis Cemetery, Marie Laveau's tomb, something like that, and you'll find it.

I agree. I remember my Grandmother always said the snakes were the worst! I was shocked to see on the news how many petro plants were in the area and chemical plant. If those are seriously damaged I can't imagine how long the problems may be with the people and environment of southern louisana
