when the sun goes down? All these people in the Dome. All these people on top of their rooftops. All these people homeless in the flooded streets of NOLA and elsewhere.

as desperation increases, and water and food run out its just a matter of time....i think that begins tonight and peaks tomorrow night before the military is in place.
Same thing happened with Andrew. Things were somewhat brought under control once the military was mobilized.
However, now hearing reports of people shooting police officers while apprehending looters (courtesy of 4WWL live internet feed).

Do you think the looters and the like will willingly gather themselves up and leave the city? That's a great way to start a riot right there.

While I wasn't personally there, I did hear several first hand accounts of Andrew and the first week or three afterwards. Apparently the National Guard and the military cordoned off the entire affected area and allowed nothing in. They (the government) considered the area too much of a health risk to allow anyone to go in, and instead let the people make their way out as hunger and fear of the roving gangs of looters and thugs forced them out. Those who experienced Andrew first hand, feel free to comment/prove me wrong, supply additional information, etc. Again, this is only what I've heard.

After Andrew, I slept with loaded shotgun by my side.
Also kept gun by stickshift when driving. People were DESPERATE.
Really feel bad for those in LA, AL, MISS...
With no electricity for up to nine weeks after Andrew, people with bad intentions could take advantage of the darkness. It was beautiful to see the stars, but also scary.

I will sneak in a teensy-weensy "political" one... Here is the exact time I make a "Bucky Beaver" face - that is, wrinkle-up nose and eyes w. front teeth down on lower lip. Okay, now in an irritating, mocking hillbilly voice: "Why does anyone need to own a GUN?"
You can see why. Remember the good, decent folks caught up in these kinds of nightmares the next time someone is telling you that we need to ban guns. The police and even the military won't be able to help these folks for quite a while. Until then, "just talking things out" probably won't work.
