GOM SST'S

Does anyone have any graphics to show what the GOM Sea Surface Temps. I am trying to find some up to date info. I would image that it is a lot cooler than before possibly lowering the risk for tropical development in the GOM.

Those waters all around FL and the Gulf are as hot as the air temperatures - geez :eek:

I was just thinking the exact same thing....we usually can count on a cane (especially Katrina) to cool the waters significantly but it doesnt look like that happened at all!! Anyone who can enlighten us to why??

But she did. Before she came (like on Aug, 28) temperatures were over 30 Celsius all over the Gulf. Now there's at least a few specks below 30 C°, though none below 29 C°.

But the Texas Coast is too hot to dip!

Maybe it wasn't in the Gulf long enough to really get the upwelling going? Anyone?

Well if you compare the hi-res shots before and after, there was significant cooling after the storm passed.

However, the 3-day composite from today is warmer than yesterday; it won't take long for them to be back to normal.

I remember one of the pro-mets saying that the gulf isn't deep enough for upwelling.

I think that as such a large body of water was already very warm one storm, regardless of how large, was unlikely to effect SST's for any great length of time - unfortunately.

Some of those images are not updated all that often (even though the timestamp is up to date) - there is not way the water in the path of Katrina didn't cool off. Wait a couple days and we should see the cooling.

Don't use the Wx Underground maps. Use the hi-res SST maps and you can clearly see a difference. But it won't last long. The W. GOM recovered a few days after Emily.

well 92L is likely to explode if it enters the Carib... the Carib is currently the prime spot for development... at least I think
