Chances of Ophelia moving into GOM
What does anyone think about the chances that Ophelia will hit a road block called strong high pressure and either move SW into the GOM a la Katrina or do a loop de loop and cut across southern/central Florida on a due west heading into the GOM for a second landfall. I know there are a few models hinting at it but what does everyone else think? Please explain. To me looking at the latest WV loop she looks to be bumping into the ridge now and drifting west. Look at the NE flow cutting across Florida and out into the Gulf. Could this be the future trail for her to follow?

Unfortunately for the GOM I think she has a good shot of ending up there. I think the ridge willl probably ridge her to the west or even WSW.
I think all the wobbles right now are pretty inconsequential, as I don't see her doing much for the next 24 hours or so....altho my radar fixes have her steadily just north of due west now so I'm watching closely....

I agree. Unfortunately for GOM the ridge is building strong.
It has been moving W or WSW on Melborne radar for some time now.
W/WSW movement for next 2-3 days at least IMO.
Models may shift

Don't know if it will go that far south, but a WSW track would bring
it very close. Windy weekend perhaps...
Still too early to tell...by tomorrow I'll have a better idea.
im being pessimistic (sic) i guess. my gf lives on davis island so it would be typical after what has happened. they seem pretty complacent there, so am continually trying to educate them (her and her folks) on the dangers of a hurricane hit. she told me there is a sign on the bridge between davis and mainland saying "we are next" - did you put it there ?
