Navy Invest site help needed

A quick question for those who bookmark invest sites. I usually get invest information from the navy's site at: http://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/tc_pages/tc_home.html
but for the last day or so I can't get the site to open. All my other bookmarks are working fine and I even Googled to make sure the addy was correct.

Is anyone else having this trouble? Or does anyone know of a mirror site? If not, any suggestions where to get good information on developing invests? (Since things are shifting/developing so fast, I've lost track of the development that was lurking behind Phillipe!)

I couldn't get anything from it this afternoon, using the Monterrey link. Page started to load but never finished.

Yeah... I'm having problems too. First it wasn't updated(didn't even have 96L on there when I checked), and was still calling Philippe an Invest... now it just doesn't work.

It was already down yesterday evening.

*sigh* I spoke too soon. The first page loaded fine but now I'm getting the:

Unfortunately, the NRL Monterey page always does this. Hit refresh again and it should be fine.

EDIT: I tried it and it still doesn't load. Now my suggestion would be to stay off the page and hopefully its server load will ease up if fewer people visit it, it will be back up hopefully by the beginning of the workweek.

aarrrghhh!!! These guys are driving me nuts! I always use links to the closeup views, skipping the frames and thumbnails. NRL still doesn't work. FNMOC, after having TD18 listed as 18L.EIGHTEE now 18L.EIGHTEEN (correct), have now changed 17L.PHILIPPE to 17L.SEVENTEE (????) What's going on in Norfolk and Monterey??? :wall:

Wonder if they got hit with a DOS attack?

Anyone know anyone in this branch of the Navy, who might have some insight to the recovery of this most valuable resource, right as the tropics suddenly burst into action?

I managed to get on once and they had drastically changed the site layout. Methinks they're doing a site "upgrade" and you can't get on while they reload the site. Mealsothinks they shouldn't be doing this during the peak of Atlantic hurricane season. :lol:

Well... the NRL site is not intended on public use at all. It's mission is for Navy forecasters, therefore, if they were going to do an upgrade... this being a weekend would be as good of a time as any. The forecasters that use this site have plenty of back-ups to use. This site being down has limited operational impacts.

methinks I agree with you 100%!!! 13 storms, and they decide to re-design. Probably the worst case of bad timing I've seen in a long time. :wink:

FNMOC is working perfectly for me this morning.

EDIT: Never mind, it's not working anymore.

That's true, but they have made it available to the public. And there are no other zoomed images of INVESTS in the Atlantic east of 40W that update every half hour. At least none I know of: METEOSAT every 3 hours and doesn't zoom, SSD/GOES regular views from Global, GHCC global can zoom some to East Atlantc, but resolution very poor, every thing else seems to be a basin-wide or global view. If there are zooms which compare to NRL/FNMOC, please let me know. We are concerned about 97L here...

Edit to explain further: We are a boating community. A passenger ship here today will leave good hurricane mooring for 1 week to St. Martin, another week to St. Lucia. Passengers already aboard and flights for those joining next weekend already booked. Decisions must be made now or in the next couple of days, despite forecast uncertainties. When you must walk the delicate tightrope between protecting lives and safety, and staying in business, no view, no forecast, can come too early.

It's very good. I recommend this site to everybody. You can change the zoom, change the quality and size of the picture, add lat/lon lines, and more.

It's much better than the Navy site, where you want to go is up to you.

wxman, I did mention GHCC in my post. Yes, it's a wonderful site, and I use it multiple times/day. However, like I said, to get east of 40W you must use either meteosat (3hr updates-can't detect circulation at that span) or global GOES12 - which when zoomed to E. Atlantic, is fuzzy.
